Work for Chernobyl Childrens project Charity auction/exhibition intitled 'Ice Breaker', opening August 19th at the Wright Venue, Dublin as part of the Mont Blanc fundraising climb

The work is mixed media; it combines fabric, stitch, drawing and print.  The fabrics are chosen to create that sense of ice, like the cool sheen on the organza and the reflective properties of Angelina fibres. The printed lines are representational of the breaks or cracks in the ice. Fabric and Ice are both strong and fragile in equal measure. Fabric is often associated with warmth and protection; I like to play on this by using it to demonstrate the visual properties of Ice which is cold and exposed. The stitched thread within the pieces is to hold together the break lines, it is the secure line, embedded in the fabric like a climbers line attached to the rock and ice for security.  The landscape and survey maps of Mont Blanc also informed this work, the graphic nature of the contour lines in an organic landscape.
